Prophecies Concerning The Holy Ghost
By Bishop John Thompson

The Prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz.
Isaiah means, “Jehovah is salvation.”

Isaiah was called the “eagle eye prophet” after his death by many Christian. However there is no record in the Bible that he was called the eagle eye prophet. Many Christian gave him that title probably because he foretold 700 years before the birth of Jesus that he would be born of a virgin and save the world. (see Isaiah 7:14; 9:6). Isaiah 32:15. Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest. (59:21) As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

The Prophet Jeremiah, son of Hilkiah.
Jeremiah means, “Jehovah establishes.”

Jeremiah, who was ordained a prophet unto the nations before birth (see Jeremiah 1-10). He prophesied that God would make a new covenant with his people. Jeremiah 31:31. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: (32) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: (33) But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. (34) And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

The Prophet Ezekiel, son of Buzi.
Ezekiel means, “God strengthens.”

Ezekiel prophesied that God would give his people a new heart and put his spirit within them, that they may have the ability to walk in his statutes and keep his judgments. Ezekiel 36:26. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (27) And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. (39:29) Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

The Prophet Joel, son of Pethuel.
Joel means, “Jehovah is God.”

Joel 2:28. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: (29) And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

The prophet Zechariah, son of Berechiah.
Zechariah means, “God remembers.”

Zechariah prophesied that God would pour upon his people the spirit of grace and supplications including the death of Jesus on the cross. It is interesting to note in Ezra 5:1 and 6:14 says that Zechariah was the son of Iddo. Zechariah 12:10. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourned for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first.

John the Baptist, son of Zechariah.
John means, “Jehovah is gracious.”

John who was one of the four gospel writers described as the man who prepared the way for Jesus, known as the baptizer, forerunner of Jesus, and as a prophet. Jesus said John was more then a prophet (see Matthew 11:9). John predicted and announced that he who cometh after him would baptize with the Holy Ghost and with fire. Matthew 3:11. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier then I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.

Jesus the Lord from heaven, The son of God.
Jesus means, “Jehovah is salvation.”

Jesus reminded his disciples that the Holy Ghost would teach them (us) all things and bring all things to their (our) remembrance (see John 14:26). In fact, Jesus is the Holy Ghost, The Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of Christ. Notice these titles refers to Jesus the person of the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:13. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (24:49) And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. John 7:37. In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (39) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) John 14:16. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (17) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (18) I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Note the phrase, I will come to you. None other then Jesus himself the person of the Holy Spirit. John 16:7. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. Acts 1:3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: (4) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. (5) For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. (6) When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? (7) And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
(8) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
